The WDS Wolves have kicked off their Basketball season on a strong note. Bob Osterhoudt, the head coach, and Zeno Scott, a new coach this year, have worked tirelessly, and the team’s skill set shot up from the previous season. Their first game, against the High Meadow School, was a successful win! Arlo “Lolo” Louis, their top scorer so far, started off with 13 points. Max Klepner, Jasper Novak, and Hughie Collins scored 10 points each. Solomon Cantor-Stephens-Whitely, a new player for this season’s starting lineup, scored 2 points with a fast break in the final quarter. The Wolves sealed the win, 45-24. With a 1-0 record so far starting the season, the Wolves faced a new opponent- The Faith Christian Academy Lions. The Wolves had never played them before, and therefore had no idea what to expect. In a shocking turn of events, the Wolves managed to tie it up 47-47 in the final quarter of the game. With minutes barely remaining, Faith Christian stole the ball to score the game-winning layup. They went on to get two more points and win, 51-47. The Wolves’s season record completely turned on them. The Wolves next game was a rematch against the High Meadow Groundhogs. Unsurprisingly, the Wolves won with a shocking 53-15 38-point victory! Almost every player did better than last game, with Solomon scoring 8 points, Jasper scoring 12, Max scoring 15, and Lolo scoring 16, bringing the team’s season record to 2-1. The rest of the season went well. The team lost a second time to Faith Christian Academy, but bounced back with a win against Mizzentop Day School. The Wolves played them many years ago, losing, but this time faced a new opponent and won. Their record is 3-2 currently, but there will be more games, so be on the lookout!
