Week of 5 ~ 11~ 26
Welcome back to Hugh’s reviews, this week we will be talking about the movie coming to theaters this July, the Odyssey. We will be talking about the director of the movie, the cast of the movie, as well as a bit of plot overview and main characters and some of the mythological creatures featured in the Odyssey as well.

Christipher Nolan is the director of an adaptation of the Odyssey and is well known for other movies such as Interstellar, the Dark Knight, and Oppenheimer. So I think the Odyssey is in good hands. Now let's talk about the cast, some actors starring in the movie include Tom Holland, Anna Hathaway, Jon Bernthal, Zendaya, and even a celebrity appearance by Travis Scott. The main story of the Odyssey, without any major spoilers, is a tale of a Greek hero named Odysseus. Odysseus travels ten years back to his home in Ithaca, after the Trojan war. Telemachus, Odysseus’s son, is at home in Ithaca along with his mother Penelope. Telemachus goes on a journey to find his father, which ends up being a coming of age story. This parallels Odysseus's journey back to Ithaca from the Trojan war. Odysseus faces many challenges like angry gods and mythological creatures, such as Poseidon, the king of the sea, the Sirens (mermaids that try to lure you into the sea) and Circe, the powerful sorceress and daughter of the sun god Helios. All these characters will likely make an appearance in the film adaptation, coming to theaters this July.
Week of 4 ~ 27~ 26
Welcome back to Hugh’s reviews! This week, after a much needed break, we will be talking about the new science fiction movie Project Hail Mary. This movie stars Ryan Gosling playing Rylan Grace. The main directors of this film include Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller. These directors have also directed hit movies like The Lego Movie (2014), and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009).

Project Hail Mary, was originally a novel written by American writer Andy Weir. The main plot of the novel (without spoiling too much), is when scientists notice that the sun is dimming, which will cause an ice age in the next 30 years. The organization investigating this appoints Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) , who is a teacher at high school though a former molecular biologist. Ryland determines that a single celled organism is slowly consuming the sun. All hell breaks loose. The rest of the movie we will figure out if they can make a difference or not. What I really liked about this film was that the cinematography is really good, the acting is also realistic and good. I think the plot of the sun slowly dimming and getting devoured is a really cool concept for a Sci-Fi movie because it speaks to environmental issues and is a truly original concept. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 95%, I think that this movie absolutely holds up to that grade, whether you are reading the novel or watching the movie, if you are into sci-fi, I think you will really enjoy it.
Week of 3 ~ 1 ~ 26
Welcome to Hugh’s reviews! In this exciting week we will be mainly talking about Micheal B Jordan and the movie "Sinners" winning an award for best ensemble. We will also be covering the controversial Timothèe Chalamet interview, sparking online debate about Timothèe Chalamet and his relation to the Oscar’s awards. Michael B Jordan, born February 9th 1987 is a critically acclaimed actor who stars in many renowned films such as “Creed” “Black Panther”, and the newest one yet, “Sinners”. Additionally we will cover Bruno Mars’s new hit album “The Romantic”. With a focus on one track that has been shocking people online around the world!
The Romantic by Bruno Mars

Let's talk about the main attraction of the new nine track hit album “The Romantic” by Bruno Mars. “I Just Might” is the new hit song off the album. It’s an upbeat RnB/Pop tune and I think it's a great song, you should definitely give it a listen! Starting with the ratings, we have lyricism, production, and originality. For lyricism I will give the song a 6/10. Some parts have good lyrics but I generally find the lyrics a bit basic and corny, though some people like that type of soap opera romantic lyricism. For production I will give it a high rating of 9/10, it has great background harmonies and all the music is mixed very well in my opinion. Lastly for originality, I'll give it a 5.5/10. The beginning has a soul type vibe that’s a bit different from other songs but further into the song I feel that it sounds very similar to his other songs and has the same vibe as songs like “24k Magic” and “That’s What I Like”, which isn’t always a bad thing. Overall I give this new hit an 8/10. I think it is a very catchy song and personally it's been added to my playlist on Spotify!
The Oscars

This week, the 2026 acting awards occurred, and Michael B Jordan won male actor of the year! A big contribution to this award was the movie “Sinners” that Michael B Jordan starred in. Amazingly “Sinners” also won an acting award for best ensemble of 2025! Best ensemble is basically for the best overall cast for any movie. Personally I think “Sinners” is a really good movie. I especially liked the musical aspect. I think the soundtrack is great, and the whole movie revolving around soul and blues music is a cool way to symbolize vampires. In stories about vampires, a lot of the time blues and soul music is something that attracts them to places. More specifically the aspects and elements of “voodoo” (a religion practiced in parts of the Caribbean, especially Haiti.) that are incorporated into the music. One song in particular, “Pale , Pale Moon” written by Jayme Lawson (co-written by Brittany Howard). This soundtrack really stood out to me because I thought it was very immersing, and it really emphasized a lot of the major themes in the movie.
Another major event in movie news, Timothee Chalamet was interviewed by Mathew McConaughey. In the interview with McConaughey, when the question of attention span came up, Chálamet made a striking comment, “I don't want to be working in ballet, or opera, or things where it's like, 'Hey, keep this thing alive, even though like no one cares about this anymore'," This comment started online debate and arguments about Chálamet and his relation to the Oscar awards due to the fact that he was dismissive of Ballet and Opera. Speaking of the Oscar awards, the awards for actor of the year consist of five major contestants:
-
Timothée Chalamet - Marty Suprême
-
Leonardo DiCaprio - One Battle After Another
-
Ethan Hawke - Blue Moon
-
Michael B. Jordan - Sinners
-
Wagner Moura - The Secret Agent
